ABOUT
"Like a love child of Bon Iver and Sylvan Esso"
- (Song-of-the-day KUTX)
Based in Austin, Texas, Shimmer Island is the solo project of Jeremy David Roye, co-founder of the Austin Music Video Festival.
During the height of the pandemic, Jeremy had to postpone the festival and send his 8-year-old daughter alone on a plane back to her mother in France , not knowing when or where he would see her again. Jeremy found solace during this challenging time by teaming up with co-producer Nathaniel Earl and collaborator Shane Wood to develop a handful of intimate, calming songs around love, healing, and connection.
These songs became the album No Man is an Island (July, 2022). Shimmer Island's previous debut album Violet Waves (2021) showcased a spirited and wide-ranging sampler of things to come.
Shimmer Island's current music and live show might be appreciated by fans of Sylvan Esso, RY-X, and Bon Iver.
STREET CRED
“Shimmer Island is unique among the endless links and releases hitting my inbox as a radio presenter. There’s a deep soulfulness in their music. A timeless, almost genre-less, universal quality recalling electronica, folky-pop music, and the reflections of a strong singer-songwriter crafting songs that stand out … out of time, yet familiar all at once.”” - Marc Fort
— Amazing Radio
“Love this! Has great potential for a large audience” - Tom Gimbel
— Austin City Limits; Hi, How Are You Project
“The song sounds beautiful. I think it's a really great tribute to Daniel and the sentiment of the song, which is one of the most profound songs ever.” ” - Spencer Tweedy
— Tweedy Family Band
“It's definitely not a track that can be listened to passively, and with an opening salvo this strong, Shimmer Island will no doubt ensnare our minds for many years to come.” - Robin Fulton
